Peter Boyer is a musician whose main passion lies in songwriting. He
has been a songwriter and a musician for a very long time - most of his
life. Peter’s first instrument was the harmonica which he played as a
very small boy. He has played at major festivals, concerts and bars across
Canada, and has been in numerous bands over the years that have opened for
major artists.
Peter has played most genres of music, but his origins lie in contemporary
folk music. He is mostly an acoustic guitar player, and can definitely hold
his own on electric guitar. Peter also loves playing electric bass. But for
playing live, he prefers the acoustic guitar because, to him, it gives a song
such prominence.
Peter Boyer’s lyrics are stories that need to be told and heard. He still enjoys
playing lead guitar as a sideman for up and coming singer songwriters when he
gets the chance. Peter has worked with and known over the years a lot of well
known Canadian musicians and music moguls.
The "Same Latitude as Rome" is a musical collective involving many musicians
including Peter Boyer [electric/acoustic/bass guitars, harmonica, vocals], Anneke
McCabe [drums, djembe, keyboards, trumpet, vocals] Christine Scholtz [guitar,
percussion, vocals] Heather Boyer [guitar, vocals], Chris Martin [bass, drums
guitar], Jeff Meloche [drums], Bart Lavis [electric/acoustic guitar, vocals],
John McDonald [guitar, vocals], Hans Christian Mogensen [drums, marimba, keyboards]
and Anne Clausen [drums]. The band can exist as duo or up to 10 members if everyone
is available.
The music is original, singer/songwriter and folk based. The songwriting and music is
strong, and based on the biggest influence for the band, the Windsor rock trio,
"Anneke's Star". Songwriting influences are drawn from stories that need to be told,
and messages that need to be heard. The songwriters have received honorable mentions
in past Detroit and Great Lakes Songwriting Competitions, and the members have
performed at numerous festivals, clubs and concerts across Canada and in Europe.
Despite radio play and a few CD releases, the band remains firmly entrenched in the
Canadian underground music scene. A 2008 recording project is currently underway to
capture new songs and hopefully, new audiences.
